The Sanibel-Captiva Rotary Club announced the judging results from the 37th Annual Arts & Crafts Festival, with winners selected in the two-dimensional, three-dimensional and crafts categories.

Ribbons, checks and certificates were awarded to the first, second and third place winner in each category, plus a special Best of Show. The artists were judged and selected by a team from the Florida Gulf Coast University's Art Department, led by the FGCU Art Gallery curator, Anica Sturdivant.

Top prize - the Ikki Matsumoto Best of Show Award - is named after the late Matsumoto. He was one of the founders of BIG ARTS Arts and the Tower Gallery, and Matsumoto was a major contributor to the Rotary Festival. His art adorned the event T-shirt each year. The annual award was given to the two-dimensional winner, photographer David Rowell. Matsumoto's daughter, Amy, presented him with a one-of-a-kind Luc Century etched glass trophy. Rowell has shown his scenic, almost graphical work all over the United States. It was his first showing on Sanibel.

"This was one of the best shows I have done," Rowell said.

The winner of the three-dimensional category was John Cheer. His work is ceramic wall art. Cheer's blend of shape and color makes his art alive and eye-catching and his engaging pieces are popular among Sanibel art patrons. Cheer has been juried into the festival many times in the past.

"This is my best show of the year," he said.

The winner of the crafts category was Galina Lambert. A fiber artist with a talent for mixing color and fiber into wearable art, she is a local artist. Lambert's work gives the person wearing it a feeling of exhibiting something special. Her approach to her art is gentle and comforting.

The 38th Annual Arts & Crafts Festival is set for Feb. 13-14.
