Sanibel Vice Mayor Mick Denham has been appointed and will serve as a member at-large for the Florida League of Cities' 2018 Legislative Committee.

The committee will meet in Orlando in conjunction with the league's 58th Annual Legislative Conference scheduled for Nov. 15-16. The purpose of the committee is to review the recommended legislative priorities of the league's five legislative policy committees. Based on the review, the committee votes on a proposed Legislative Action Agenda, which is then submitted to the full league membership for its consideration and adoption.

Denham was elected to the Sanibel City Council in 2005. He has since been re-elected in 2009, 2013 and 2017. He was appointed by his peers as mayor from 2007 to 2010 and as vice mayor from 2005-2007, 2010-2013 and 2015 to present. Currently, he is council's liaison to the Southwest Florida League of Cities and Southwest Florida Regional Planning Council and member of the Metropolitan Planning Organization. He also serves on the J.N. "Ding" Wildlife Society Advocacy Committee and remains council's point person for local water quality issues.

Additionally, Denham was appointed to serve on the Florida League of Cities' Utilities, Natural Resources and Public Works Legislative Policy Committee and the FLC Nominating and Resolutions Committees.

The Florida League of Cities is the united voice of Florida's municipal governments. The league represents more than 400 Florida cities, towns and villages. The league is headquartered in Tallahassee and is governed by a board of elected municipal officials.

The Legislative Committee consists of the chair of each league policy committee, chairs of the league's other standing committees, presidents of the local-regional leagues, members from other municipal associations and the league municipal trusts, along with several at-large members who are appointed by the president. The composition of the committee ensures a broad representation of the league's membership. It enhances members' ability to present a unified front to the Florida Legislature.
