Music fans can enjoy a first for the islands this weekend - and help to support a worthy cause.

The Sanibel School PTA will host its first-ever Adults Night Out on Nov. 10 from 6 to 10:30 p.m. at The Community House on Sanibel. The evening will feature drinks and hors d'oeuvre, along with a live performance by dueling pianists Larry Klass and Leon Novembre, with the Felix and Fingers group.

"It's the first annual, hopefully," PTA President Alicia Clark said of the event. "It's just a little break before the holidays start, for adults just to get together and have a great time for a great cause."

All of the proceeds will go toward the PTA and the school.

"It's all for the school, for the children," she said.

The PTA, made up of volunteer members, is responsible for helping to raise additional monies to support the school's multiple needs, like supplies for the classrooms, a variety of educational activities, the purchase of books and workbooks, assistance for the music and theatre programs, and more.

"They are a very well-known national group," Clark said.

Members of group performed on the TLC television show "Four Weddings."

Why

Raise funds for The Sanibel School

"They've been performing on cruise ships and everywhere else," she said. "They're getting quality entertainment that night, and it's the first time this type of entertainment has come to the island."

She noted that the performers are donating the night's tips back to the cause.

"Which is extremely generous," Clark said.

The event will kick off with a free beer and wine cocktail hour from 6 to 7:30 p.m. A deejay, supplied by Felix and Fingers, will entertain the crowd prior to the main event, which will begin at 7:30 p.m.

There will be a full cash bar, along with heavy hors d'oeuvre from the Sanibel Catering Co.

"High-end seafood, beef, chicken," she said. "Things that people will really enjoy."

Instead of a silent auction to raise additional funding, the PTA came up with a different idea.

Clark explained that attendees can purchase buckets of sand for $25, $50 or $100. Within the sand, there will be a number that will match up with a prize or a prize itself, at values of $30 to $300.

"You don't know what you're getting in the bucket," she said.

Local businesses have donated items for the prizes, from jewelry to an espresso machine.

Clark noted that there will be a total of 50 buckets available for purchase.

"It's just a fun way to win a prize," she said.

While the evening is all about fun, the PTA has planned ahead to make sure it is safe fun.

"Every paid ticket will get a $20 credit for an Uber," Clark said. "The PTA wants everyone to have a good time, but also be safe."

Attendees can dress up in cocktail attire if they wish.

"There's some people who want to dress up," she said. "But just come and enjoy."

Tickets for the event are $75 per person.

"We have more than half left," Clark said on Nov. 1.

She added that the PTA hopes to sell out.

People are encouraged to get theirs and experience a first - but hopefully not last - for the islands.

"It is just going to be amazing," Clark said. "It's going to be an event that is talked about."

"They don't want to miss out," she added.

Tickets can be purchased in advance at thesanibelschoolpta.com, or day of at the door. Those who purchase online can download the Uber coupon at that time; others will receive theirs at the event.

With Enviromow Of Lee County the only sponsor, sponsorships are still available. For $1,000, sponsors will receive 10 tickets and reserved VIP seating, along with the related advertising.

"We do involve our teachers as much as we can," Clark noted.

In doing so, the PTA has also set up a sponsor a teacher option. Donors can purchase a ticket - at a discounted price of $50 - to be gifted to a specific teacher or any teacher to enjoy the evening.

"As a nice way to include them and thank them for their hard work," she said.
