Chef Jarred Cooking Demo

Resident Chef Jarred Harris will teach how easy it is to prepare delicious meals in minutes with only five ingredients on June 22 from 4 to 6 p.m. The menu will include: crispy calamari salad, tuna ginger and lime cakes, and orange polenta cake with citrus and honey syrup. Cost is $25. Advance registration required by June 15 at noon.

Baking Series

French baker Andre Gratesol will teach the second session in a two-part progressive series focused on baking on July 5 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Cost is $50 per session. Advance registration required by June 28 at noon. Limit of 16 participants.

Smoke on the Island

The "Smoke on the Island" Hog Roast will take place on June 30 from 5 to 8 p.m. Resident Chef Jarred Harris will cook up slow-roasted pig with Sanibel Mango BBQ Sauce, tomato and fresh mozzarella salad, baked beans and yucca fries. Cost is $15. Auction for limited number of desserts or $5 for the Ice Cream Sundae bar featuring Harris' homemade sauces and more. A children's dessert contest also will be held. Limited number of tickets available at The Community House and Bailey's General Story.

Youth Cooking Class

A summer cooking class will take place on July 2 from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. Open to children ages 8-14. Cost is $35 per child. Advance registration required.

Parent, Child Cooking Class

Resident Chef Jarred Harris will teach a parent and child cooking class on July 9 from 10 a.m. to noon. Learn simple interesting recipes that are healthy, fun and delicious. The menu will include: chocolate and surprise cake pops. Open to children ages 5-9. Cost is $35 for the first two family members, and each additional member is $10. Advance registration required by July 2 at noon.

Community Shredding Day

The Community House will host a Community Shredding Day on July 14 from 9 a.m. to noon in the north lot, across the street from the facility. Get rid of tax receipts and more; no large paperclips or binder clips. Cost is $5 per box or bag. Enter via the driveway next to Dunlop Road and exit via the driveway nearest to the Sanibel Bean.

Summer Kids Cooking Camp

Resident Chef Jarred Harris will continue his tour around the world with a Summer Kids Cooking Camp from July 30 to Aug. 3 from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Cost is $50 per child; register for one day or multiple days. Some scholarships are available thanks to sponsorships by the Sanibel-Captiva Rotary Club, the Sanibel-Captiva Kiwanis Club and private citizens. Prepaid registration and required paperwork due by July 20 at noon.
