Sanibel library to host VR programs, Musical Movies and more

June 6, 2018
Island Reporter, Captiva Current, Sanibel-Captiva Islander

Babies on up to teenagers are invited to register for the annual Summer Reading program.

Participants will receive a special gift from the Sanibel Public Library. As in years past, children can read to earn books for their own home library and for patients at the Golisano Children's Hospital of Southwest Florida.

The Sanibel Public Library Foundation matches each book "earned" with a book for the hospital. Since its inception in 2012, young readers have helped to contribute more than 6,000 books to the hospital.

Herpetologist John Storms will have his exotic live “world of reptiles” at the Sanibel Public Library today, June 13, at 3 p.m.

The Summer Reading Program is funded in part by a grant from the foundation's Joan Hunt Cory Children's Fund. The fund was established in 2008 to honor longtime library volunteer and supporter Joan Hunt Cory, who was also a 20-year Sanibel resident.

Families can register for the program in person or online. This year, Beanstack is offered as a smartphone app. The app not only logs reading time, but delivers personalized book recommendations.

Locals as well as visitors are welcome to participate.
