Bailey Homestead: Making the Land Work

A walking tour of the Bailey Homestead Preserve from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. blends SCCF's mission-driven work on the historic property, the history of the land itself and some stories about the Bailey family. Cost is $5 for non-members. Meet at the Conservation Gateway Kiosk at the head of the Shipley Trail, at 3333 Sanibel Captiva Road, Sanibel. For information, call 239-472-2329.

Tea-making Demonstration

Join SCCF at 10 a.m. at the Bailey Homestead Preserve, at 1300 Periwinkle Way, Sanibel, for some refreshing tea from the gardens. Taste teas made from Tulsi basil, native mint, passionvine, lemongrass, yaupon holly and native pennyroyal, which are all growing at the Native Landscape and Garden Center. There will be a demonstration of how to make the teas from freshly harvested leaves. Learn to build a container tea garden from nursery grown plants. Cost is $10; reservations are required. Use of asana (postures), pranayama (breathing techniques), mudra, philosophy, meditation and guided relaxation techniques. Instructor is Dr. Susan Pataky. Experience Virtual Reality

Summer Reading Program Kick-Off Party

The annual Summer Reading Program Kick-Off Party will be held from 10 a.m to 12:30 p.m. at the Sanibel Public Library, at 770 Dunlop Road, Sanibel. Ages 18 and under may sign up for the program, which will run through Aug. 18. There will be games, crafts and snacks. There are two ways to sign-up and log reading time and activities - paper or online. Earn books for yourself and for patients at the Golisano Children's Hospital of Southwest Florida.
