Update: Sanibel Causeway road closure now expected Friday afternoon

Update:

There have been delays and the move of the oversized trailer across the Sanibel Causeway affecting traffic will not take place until 3-4 p.m. today, Jan. 5.

Two-way traffic will be impacted ONLY when the move begins at the Toll Plaza., officials said. After that, all off-island traffic will flow freely. On-island traffic will experience intermittent delays.

LCSO will have deputies on site to manage traffic.

Sanibel Police Chief William Dalton advises this vehicle will not enter the roadways on Sanibel until the early morning hours on Saturday.

Traffic conditions will be more favorable for its safe transit of the island at that time. Any questions regarding impacts to Sanibel can be directed to the Sanibel Police Department at 239-472-3111.

Motorists may notice a short closure of the Sanibel Causeway Road on Friday, Jan. 5 from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. due to a mobile home move that is going to require LCSO deputies to shut down the southbound lane of the causeway so the oversize load can get through safely.
