The Ocean Tribe Paddlers Club, which kicked off in May by the Sanibel Sea School, will meander through canals for this month's excursion on Tuesday, July 11.

Sanibel Sea School Outdoor Education Coordinator Spencer Richardson said the club is intended to get everyone out on the water who loves to paddle because it's great fun to paddle with friends.

"I hope the club helps us find more people to paddle with," she said, adding that she would love to "have a nice paddling community here."

This month the Ocean Tribe Paddlers Club will meet at the Sanibel Boat Ramp at 5:30 p.m. July 11. Richardson said they will depart from the ramp and paddle the canal for an easy and fun paddle. The route to be taken typically showcases manatees and dolphins.

"Just show up and paddle with us," she said.

The paddle will last for a maximum of two hours. Those interested in joining are encouraged to bring whatever they feel comfortable paddling with. The only stipulation is it cannot have a motor.

Richardson said those interested in joining, but do not have a paddleboard, are encouraged to call the Sanibel Sea School at (239) 472-8585. The organization will bring some to the destination.

Every month, she said they try and launch from a new location, so they can explore different areas. Richardson said in August the club will depart from Bunche Beach.

Those who have never paddled before are encouraged to join.

"If you've never paddled before you are definitely welcomed to come out," she said, adding that the standup paddleboard is a great beginners board to use. "The standup paddleboard is my favorite because you get a great vantage point over the water."

Anyone with questions can call the Sanibel Sea School, or email spencer@sanibelseaschool.org.
